A unique action scene involving no guns in Hard Boiled was Alan (Tony Leung) cruising in his Series 1 (1966-1969) Alfa Romeo Spider (although he was on the way to do a hit). Alan tapping into the waviest dai lo vibe in this car scene.
The car has a few distinct features. There are many variations of the badge throughout the years most notable is the typeface and the depiction of the snake eating the man which is the symbol of the Visconti family 11th century Milan.
A couple badges donned the “boat tail” duetto: the 1750 badge and the Pininfarina emblem badge.
Even the word mark Alfa Romeo has gone through slight iterations over the years but tracking down the right reference images led to this:
In the end, the composition of the front was intended to feel like a storyboard or a comic book with Alan weaving the lanes of Hong Kong in this stylish car. Even by looking at just the pictures you can hear the soundtrack of the raging jazz saxophone composed by Michael Gibbs.
The back really highlights Alan’s co-star: the Alfa Romeo series 1 spider. An ode to an incredible car in an incredible film. Discharge printed on 6.5 oz garment dyed (greyish bluish vintage like black) blanks, the fit on these are a bit boxier, shorter and wide. These will release 8AM on Wednesday May 25 on THEWWW.XYZ. Just in time, with summer around the corner for you to drop the top on the car and cut lanes like Alan.
